The Association administers and maintains the building and grounds of Sanibel Harbour Tower South Condominium, a seventy-nine unit residential condominium complex. The name by which this condominium is identified is Sanibel Harbour Tower South, A Condominium. The condominium is located at 17170 Harbour Pointe Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33908-2774 and is part of the Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa (Resort). Within the Resort the condominium is known as the Bay View Tower.
The Resort is located in Fort Myers (Lee County), Florida. The Resort includes a 240-room hotel, a 107-room Inn, a 30,000 square foot conference center, a 40,000 square foot spa, a tennis center including 12-lighted tennis courts, a 5,500-seat tennis stadium, a marina and two condominium towers including the Bay View Tower. These facilities are contained in seven separate complexes: Sanibel Harbour Hotel, Captiva Tower, Conference Center, Spa/Stadium, Tennis Center, Harbour View Tower, Bay View Tower.
On August 10, 2007 the Resort was sold to Columbia Sussex, a private hospitality company based in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. The company, owned by the Yung family, owns and operates hotels and casinos in various parts of the United States. As of 2008, the company operated 73 hotels under 13 different brands, and 14 casinos with a total capacity of 25,191 rooms. The current president is William J. Yung III. In December, 2009, Columbia Sussex turned the resort into a Marriott brand.
The Resort was originally developed by Liberty/Sanibel II Limited Partnership, a Massachusetts limited partnership, organized in 1987 and a subsidiary of Liberty Mutual Insurance Companies, Boston, Massachusetts. Liberty purchased the Resort in 1987 from a group of local Fort Myers/Sanibel developers. The former group constructed both the Bay View and Harbour View condominium towers, a Tennis Center affiliated with tennis pro Jimmy Connors, and a health spa/stadium complex. In 1989 the Resort hotel was constructed. In 1990, construction of the Resort's marina facility was completed and inn 1998, the Grande Bay hotel was opened along with a larger conference facility located above the parking garage adjacent to the resort hotel. Until Liberty acquired its contract in April, 1992, the Resort was managed by Sonesta International Hotel Corporation.
